Hutchinson interned for Republican Senator Ted Cruz in the summer of 2016 and for Steve Scalise, the spokesperson for the Republican-controlled US House of Representatives, in the summer of 2017 while still a student at Christopher Newport University.

She worked as an apprentice at the White House Office of Legislative Affairs throughout the 2018 summer season. Later, she was hired by the company to work there.

She quickly rose to the position of Reynolds’ top aide, maintaining it throughout Trump’s presidency while also holding the titles of Special Secretary to the President and Director for Legislative Affairs.

She formerly shared a desk with Meadows in an office that was close to the Oval Office. When Trump’s term as president came to an end, the plan was for Hutchinson to work for his post-presidency organization in Florida.

Controversy she fueled

In her sworn testimony on June 28, Hutchinson claimed that when Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, was there and the Save America March was being organized, she overheard conversations regarding Oath Keepers and Proud Boys.

Some of the leaders of both organizations subsequently faced seditious conspiracy charges for their alleged involvement in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6.

Meadows and Giuliani both requested pardons from the president, according to Hutchinson.

She had previously informed the committee that Scott Perry, Louie Gohmert, Andy Biggs, Matt Gaetz, and others had all requested pardons.

Hutchinson claimed that Trump and Meadows were warned of the January 6 event that some people were armed, including with guns, and could not enter the rally because of magnetometers.

Trump made an attempt to get the magnetometers taken out and said he didn’t mind if his supporters had firearms since “They’re not coming to hurt me.”

The committee was made aware of people carrying guns, including AR-15s, by police radio broadcasts.

Hutchinson testified that Tony Ornato, the then-White House deputy chief of staff, had told her that when Trump got in the presidential SUV following his rally and attempted to drive to the Capitol as his supporters marched there.

His lead Secret Service agent Robert Engel told him it was too dangerous and that they were returning to the White House.

Hutchinson asserted that Ornato told her that Trump became agitated, attempted to grab the wheel of the car, and lunged at Engel’s clavicles.

She claimed that Engel was present when Ornato described the incident and never disputed his account.

Three days after Hutchinson’s testimony, CNN reported that it had spoken with two Secret Service agents who had since February 2021 heard tales of the incident from a variety of other agents, including Trump’s driver.
