Early Life of IAS Smita Sabharwal

Smita Sabharwal was born on 19 June 1977 (age 43 years) in West Bengal, India. Her father, Pranab Das was an Army Officer as a Colonel. And mother’s name is Purabi Das. Smita was a very disciplined girl from her childhood. Being the daughter of a colonel, she grew up in a strict environment and had to be well organized during her early life. Her father is an inspiration for her life as he always pushed her towards her success.

Smita Sabharwal begins her elementary education at St. Ann’s High School, Secunderabad. She was a smart and talented girl in her school and loves doing the study as her passion. Later, she enrolled in St Francis Degree College to pursue her graduation. There, Smita graduated in Commerce.

She then started preparing for India’s toughest exam, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Smita worked day and night and put all her efforts into the exam. And the day came when her efforts blossomed in her life.

She was only 22 years old when she cleared the UPSC exam in 2000 and succeeded in securing the fourth rank all over India. It was one of the biggest and happiest moments for her and for her family.

Career of IAS Sabharwal

Smita Sabharwal debuts her career as a Sub Collector, Madanapally in Chittoor after completing the administrative training in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie in 2001. Earlier, she was trained in the Adilabad district during her trial. Being a Sub Collector, Smita gained much experience in Land Revenue Management and District Administration.

Later, she worked as Project Director in Rural Development sector in District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Kadapa.

Thereafter, she transferred to Warangal where she worked as a Municipal Commissioner. Smita did a lot of development in Warangal which includes the Fund Your City scheme where a large number of utilities created with Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Such developments are Traffic Junctions, Foot Overbridges, Bus Stops, and Parks. Further, she worked for Vishakhapatnam as a Deputy Commissioner.

The IAS Journey of Smita Sabharwal

The journey of Smita Sabharwal as an IAS is not so small, but so big. She later worked as a joint collector of Kurnool and well of Hyderabad.

Back in 20211, she became the District collector of Karimnagar where she made an important contribution to the Health and Education sector. In fact, her health initiative for the enhancement of institutional deliveries in the public sector famously known as Ammalalana. The start went well and her targets completed successfully. Also, it became a key model for several health initiatives of high-risk pregnancy management targeting IMR and MMR in NRHM of the government of India. Moreover, the initiative was also nominated for Prime Minister’s awards as one of the best initiatives of that time.

Smita works for Karimnagar resulted in the way that the district was awarded the best district in PM’s 20 programs for 2012 and 2013. Following this, she started a new program there, Voter Panduga in the vision of increasing polling percentages. During the general election of2014, she worked as a District Collector of Medak.

Smita Sabharwal believes in the modern and technological world and thereby she promoted the latest development and technology advantage. Being a top civil servant, she became popular all over India as a peoples’ officer. She has taken very new features and functions in the health and education system of Karimnagar and Medak District. This led to taking the districts at the top in the states during her tenure.

Marriage, Husband, and Children

Smita Sabharwal got married to Dr. Akun Sabharwal in the year 2004. Dr. Akun is also a civil servant and works as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. The couples blessed with a son and a daughter. Their son’s name is Nanak Sabharwal and the daughter’s name is Bhuvis Sabharwal.
