Who is Blueface?
Blueface, whose real name is Johnathan Jamall Porter, is an American rapper who turned an internet meme into a full music career.
His off-beat delivery, which intentionally raps against the rhythm of the beat, set him apart from every other rapper active in 2018.
He grew up in Mid-City, Los Angeles, and spent years trying other pursuits, including football, before finding his path in rap.
His rise from an unemployed young man to a chart-topping artist happened in under two years.
His personal life has drawn just as much media coverage as his music. Between legal battles, boxing matches, and a turbulent co-parenting situation broadcast across social media, Blueface has rarely left the headlines.
He released his debut studio album, Find the Beat, in March 2020, cementing his place beyond viral fame and into the broader rap conversation.
Early Life of Blueface
Blueface grew up across multiple neighborhoods in Los Angeles. He attended several elementary schools before his mother moved with him to the Santa Clarita Valley, and he later lived in Oakland with his father.
After relocating to the San Fernando Valley, he settled at Arleta High School.
At Arleta, he joined both the marching band, where he played alto saxophone, and the football team. By 2014, he had become the starting quarterback and led the team to an East Valley League championship that same year.
He threw for 1,724 yards and 21 touchdowns during that 2014 season.
His football talent earned him a commitment to play for Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. He briefly played college football there before leaving in 2016 without completing his degree.
After leaving Fayetteville State, he returned to Los Angeles and spent the next period largely unemployed, picking up temporary jobs when available.
That stretch of uncertainty ended in January 2017 when a friend challenged him to rap over a beat in a studio – and he released his first song, “Deadlocs,” on SoundCloud shortly after.
Blueface Age / Birthday
Blueface is 29 years old as of 2026, born on January 20, 1997. His zodiac sign is Capricorn, a sign associated with discipline and persistence.
He turned 29 in January 2026, just months after his release from prison in November 2025.
Blueface Ethnicity and Nationality
Blueface is American, born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He is African American.
His upbringing across Mid-City Los Angeles, the Santa Clarita Valley, and Oakland shaped both his worldview and his music.
Blueface Height and Weight
Blueface stands at 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm), a height confirmed by his Wikipedia page and first noted publicly when he played high school football.
He reported weighing around 180 pounds during his time in prison. His tall frame gives him a commanding physical presence, whether on stage or in a music video.
Why Does Blueface Always Wear Gloves?
Blueface first sparked widespread attention for his gloves in late 2023, when fans noticed him wearing blue and black latex gloves in public on multiple occasions.
He wore them during an interview on The Jason Lee Show and also on the night he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Jaidyn Alexis, in October 2023.
No official explanation has ever come from Blueface himself about why he wears them. Fan theories circulated widely on social media.
One suggestion was that the gloves were tied to his ongoing legal cases, limiting fingerprint contact. Others speculated the gloves were a hygiene choice, a boxing-influenced habit, or simply a fashion move.
Whatever the reason, the gloves quickly became a talking point. They sparked enough curiosity that TikTok users debated the mystery, and the discussion kept his name trending well beyond any single music release.
The gloves also fit neatly into the broader Blueface brand. He has always leaned into accessories and style choices that generate conversation, and adding latex gloves to his look was no different.
Blueface Musical Style and Influences
Blueface raps in a deliberately off-beat style, placing his words against the rhythm of the instrumental rather than on top of it.
He has said that he writes “to the beat,” using the instrumental as a reference while consciously stepping off the grid. Critics and fans have compared his approach to California rappers E-40 and Suga Free.
Growing up, he listened primarily to 50 Cent, The Game, and Snoop Dogg. Those West Coast and New York influences surface in his content and delivery, even as his technique broke from traditional rap conventions.
That willingness to be unconventional is exactly what made “Respect My Cryppin'” go viral in October 2018.
Listeners who heard the song for the first time were divided – some dismissed it, others found it irresistibly compelling.
Blueface Education
Blueface attended Arleta High School in the San Fernando Valley, where he played football and marching band.
He later enrolled at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina on a football scholarship, but left in 2016 before completing his studies.
His return to Los Angeles after college marked the turning point. Within a year, he had posted his first music to SoundCloud and started building the audience that would eventually make him a star.
Blueface Career
Early Career and Viral Breakthrough (2017–2018)

His first song, “Deadlocs,” was produced by his friend Laudiano and uploaded to SoundCloud. In June 2018, he released his first full-length project, Famous Cryp, followed by the EP Two Coccy in September 2018.
The moment that changed everything came in October 2018. Blueface released the music video for “Respect My Cryppin'” on WorldstarHipHop’s YouTube channel.
Twitter picked it up almost immediately, and the video became a viral meme within days.
His offbeat delivery, his animated energy, and his sheer confidence made the clip impossible to ignore.
Within weeks, Cash Money Records’ West Coast affiliate, Cash Money West, signed him in November 2018.
He posted studio footage with Drake and Quavo on Instagram, signaling that the major-label world had taken notice.
Thotiana and Mainstream Success (2019)
On January 26, 2019, “Thotiana” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 75, marking his first charted entry.

His momentum only grew from there. He appeared on French Montana’s “Slide” featuring Lil Tjay, which reached number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In June 2019, XXL named him to their 2019 Freshman Class as the fan-voted eleventh entrant.
That August, Blueface released the Dirt Bag EP, featuring guest appearances from The Game, Rich the Kid, Offset, and Lil Pump.
The project reached number 48 on the Billboard 200 and yielded “Daddy” featuring Rich the Kid, which peaked at number 78 on the Hot 100.
Find the Beat and Later Projects (2020–Present)
After multiple delays, including a postponement due to trademark issues, Blueface released his debut studio album Find the Beat on March 13, 2020.
The 16-track project featured DaBaby, Gunna, Jeremih, NLE Choppa, Polo G, Lil Baby, and others. Lil Uzi Vert publicly praised the album the day it dropped.
In 2021, Blueface also opened a soul food restaurant in Santa Clarita, California, called Blue’s Fish and Soul, adding a business venture alongside his music work.
Following his November 2025 release from prison, Blueface returned to social media and signaled intentions to reignite his music career.
