She has a highest WTA ranking of No. 21 in the world, and since just before she turned 17, she has consistently been in the top 100. Anisimova has made three WTA finals and won two WTA Tour titles.

Anisimova started playing tennis at a very young age and has had her father Konstantin as her long-time coach. Her older sister is also a tennis player.

In 2016, Anisimova ranked No. 2 globally in the ITF junior rankings, which was a career-high.

Early in her junior career, she was ranked outside the top 300 when she competed in the 2015 Abierto Juvenil Mexicano, but she unexpectedly won the Grade A tournament at the age of 14.

She maintained her high standards in 2016, winning the Grade 1 Copa del Café and competing in the Grade A Copa Gerdau final.

Anisimova defeated defending champion Naomi Osaka in three sets in the third round of the Australian Open after coming back from a set down and saving two match points in the final set.

She previously defeated Simona Halep at the 2019 French Open, making this the second major that she has defeated the defending champion.
